The girlfriend of the film's unseen narrator, coy club performer Meimei (Zhou Xun) attracts the attention of ex-con Mardar (Jia Hongsheng), who once loved and betrayed a girl named Moudan. Now out of jail, he searches restlessly for Moudan, and encounters her doppelganger in Meimei.
